Hello,
As we all embark on celebrating a very different Thanksgiving Day this year we join you in recognizing the conflicts of the times as we battle the desire to be with our families and friends and doing the right thing in helping fight against the pandemic.
If you have a little more time on your hands (less time in the kitchen this year perhaps?) please join us as we take the time to reflect and learn more about the true meaning of this holiday from the Native American perspective, and the history of how it came to be the holiday we all know today.
American Indian Perspective on Thanksgiving
Here at Literacy Source we have been integrating resources into our lesson plans and discussions that represent a more authentic voice in teaching about the Thanksgiving holiday. One good resource from the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian provides a lot of great information to help instigate these important discussions with your students: https://americanindian.si.edu/nk360

I wish you and your families, loved ones and friends a very happy holiday wherever you or they might be.
Stay well and stay safe,
Warmly,
Caroline
