Hope this weather is helping to lift your spirits!
Last week was very busy with the start of classes. We are off to a great start with each class getting on average 10 students attending on Zoom!
Once the students are in the classes, they are enjoying learning online, as well as interacting with the instructors/volunteers and other students. One instructor told the story today of her class wanting to stay on the Zoom call after the class had finished. The students then spent an enjoyable half an hour chatting to each other, showing each other their houses and introducing family members! Special times.
However for some students, logging onto Zoom continues to be a struggle even though they may have the right technology. We are creating a number of videos to help navigate this new zooming skill. This week our ABE Instructor, Phil Morris, added a video on how to access Zoom from an android phone and an audio scenario of a suggested dialogue for practicing English on the phone with a student. ESOL 1 students will be receiving packets of worksheet materials in the mail this week. These students need extra help, so tutors are signing up to make phone calls to help them practice their English and support their learning of class materials.
Please make sure to complete the Tutoring Hours Form each time you interact with a student!
