I hope your week is going well!
A few updates for you this week:
- If you haven't already please feel free to join a class via Zoom, especially if you are tutoring a student. I have attached a link to our Spring Class schedule in the sidebar. There are 12 classes to choose from, please let me know which class you would like to observe and I will put you in touch with the instructor.
- Thank you to those of you who have stepped up to help make regular phone calls with students. Regardless of any academic objectives, person to person contact is so important, so thank you.
- Check out the link to the Literacy Source YouTube Channel in the sidebar. Instructors are having fun creating short homemade videos for helping students with tech skills.
I hope to see you at the Literacy Source Breakfast on Tuesday, May 12th at 8:30am!
If you need a little more incentive, LS Instructor Phil has this message for you:
Another of Phil's many talents is teaching, here is one of his tutoring tips:
If a student isn't responding to something you're trying to teach them take a step back and think about ways that you could approach the topic or skill differently. If the initial approach was abstract try something concrete. If you tried to teach something using text then try using images. Ask students to tell you what they know and what they understand. When we listen to their explanations of their understanding we can sometimes identify where the gaps are.
You can reach Phil at philipm@literacysource.org if you have questions or feedback for him.
Have a good rest of your week!
