Hello,

Hope you are all still finding ways to stay busy and healthy and that your gardens are enjoying the April showers.

We are nearing the end of week 4 of the spring term and classes are continuing to go well, students and teachers are learning new skills and trying out new activities every day! Last week saw the start of the Seattle Public Library - English Conversation Circles and we had about 90 students register! it's great to see the students enjoying the online learning experience which opens up so many new possibilities, one of our students has moved back to South Korea and now joins her conversation class from there! However, we are all missing the inter-personal connections and students have been asking for more informal conversation after the classes. Some of the classes are extending the hours to allow free time at the end of class for chat time!


With this is mind we really encourage you to think about signing up to call students and talk with them on the phone. It doesn't have to be a long conversation, a friendly voice and some English practice can go a long way. Many of our students come from cultures where community and being together is an important part of their daily life, so talking on the phone is not only practicing listening and speaking skills but provides some contact in what may be a lonely and difficult environment right now.

Literary Mixer, Spring 2019

At last week's Literacy Mixer we missed being outside in the the courtyard with the clematis montana blooming at this time of year.Thanks to those of you who attended the virtual version on Zoom last week!
