I hope you are enjoying these sunny days. It has been a while since I last sent out a blog. We took a break between terms and last week was a busy week with the start of the new term. Things are up and running and going well. We registered 20 new students!
Online Tutor Orientation Training
It's not too late to sign up and get working on our TWO PART remote Tutor Training. The training is designed to support you in tutoring a student online.Part No.1: Six self-paced, online activities (4 - 5hrs work). Please complete before 7/24 training.
Part No.2: Zoom workshop on Friday, 7/24 - 10am- noon.

Pre- Activities include -
- Working with Adult Learners Online Training (if you have already done this training we would ask you to review the summary at the end and complete the certificate).
- A Ted Talk, and activity
- Photo Activity.
- Practicing with Zoom/WhatsApp with family/friends.
- Creating a short phone dialogue.
- An online web-quest to practice Zoom or WhatsApp.
We hope that completing these activities will provide a foundation for what is covered in the 2 hour Zoom session:
- How to set objectives and create effective lesson plans.
- Tips and strategies for Zoom/WhatsApp learning activities.
- Accessing teaching kits and adapting them for remote learning.
- Meet other tutors and share ideas!
Workbook Tutoring
Our new workbook tutoring program is off to a good start. We are reaching out to students who are unable to join a Zoom class and offering them 1:1 tutoring over the phone via WhatsApp or FaceTime. The tutor and student receive a textbook to work through at the student's pace. Please let me know if you are interested in learning more about this program.
New Splash Page
Many of our students use Literacy Source issued Chrome books. The splash page is the first page they see when they open the Chrome book. They can easily find the links to their class blogs with info about their classes. Please check our new user-friendly splash page here:https://www.literacysource.org/new-splash
