Welcome to tutors who have joined Phil's, Reading and Writing for GED, and Christine's ESOL 2/3 tutor cohorts. Our students are getting matched!
Literacy Source did a presentation this week on our programs and how we have transitioned to remote classes and tutoring. Each time we present about Literacy Source I am proud to talk about the work we do and specifically the value and importance of our tutoring program. Do you know that our tutoring program is one of the key things that makes Literacy Source unique? Last year we were able to show 96% of our students make literacy gains in their reading and listening skills and that is in part credit to the work you do as a tutor. So, even though you may only be aware of the progress you are making with your specific student know that you are contributing to us supporting and working a far greater number of students!
Summer Term Ending
Summer term is fast coming to a close, last class will be on Thursday, August 27th. We are then taking a 3 week break from classes, during which time we hope to be registering new students. Tutoring may continue throughout this time! Classes are busy putting together their final projects, ESOL 4/5 morning class is making a movie titled "Bezos and Coronavirus", can't wait! Check in with your student and ask them about the final project in their class.
Organizational Changes
As some of you may know Rae Levine has been heading Literacy Source as an Interim Director these past 7 months. Rae has been amazing in how she has guided the ship and kept us on course throughout the challenges we all have faced, and the specific changes in leadership at Literacy Source. We are excited about our new organizational model. Recognizing that Literacy Source is both a school and a non-profit and that finding someone with the skills to run both is challenging, we are switching to a co-director model. We are thrilled to have Cat Howell as our new Co-ED, Educational Director, running the school side, and Shira Rosen, who will be joining us next week as our new Co-ED, Managing Director, running the non-profit side (official announcement in the works.) Together they will share the responsibilities where they overlap, we are looking forward to welcoming Shira and supporting them both in developing a stronger, even more successful organization. Lots more on this to come. The bittersweet side is that we have to say goodbye to Rae, we will miss her but wish her well with the lucky organization that gets her next!
